writing as W.R. Burnett

Silverberg finished this book for WR Burnett, though in his own words, he considers himself more editor than ghost-writer.
After Burnett died, I was handed a vast mass of almost incoherent manuscript by my agent (his agent too) and asked to carve a novel out of it. The result was THE WINNING OF MICKEY FREE, which Bantam published. There may have been a second Mickey Free novel too. But I wasn't ghosting the books — just putting the disorderly manuscript into publishable form.
A similar situation arose on another Burnett book, Round the Clock at Volari's.
