Gamma Crucis VII seems like a safe, beautiful planet, but when Medic Neale and the rest of the relief team arrive to take over from the previous survey team, who have been there a year and a half, Neale immediately suspects that something is wrong with them.

One interesting factor about this story is that the survey teams are made up of five married couples, and while it's true that one of the women is the designated cook, the others are experts in various scientific fields. In most stories of the era, women are relegated to non-technical roles, seemingly existing only to provide love interests to the male protagonists.
