Max Beckerman is a world-renowned artist with a very unusual technique: he dreams sculptures into existence. Being made of the stuff of dreams,
the works are temporary, but they are so marvellous that patrons pay handsomely for them. Given the unpredictable nature of dreams, Max can't control what he creates—he wakes up in the morning and sees what he's created. A couple years ago he made a stunning shield patterned after the legend of Achilles in the Illiad. As expected, the shield eventually dissipated, and now the buyer wants a replacement, just like the old one. Max explains that his dreams can't be commanded, but the patron is very wealthy, and used to getting his way.
