A few hundred years in the future, a large portion of the former United States is occupied by mysterious aliens known as Spooks. It has become a sort of rite of passage for young men to enter the alien zone for a month and return as adults. Tom Demeris made his Entrada more than three months ago, and his older brother makes the journey to find him. He finds a landscape strangely transformed by the inscrutable ghost-like extraterrestrials, and the humans who live there are not like the people back home, either.
